Road Trip... with Kids

School is ending. The water table is out. The pool is open. Could only mean one thing – it’s (un)officially summer. And almost time for vacation.

This year, our family of five will be cramming into our minivan for not one, not two, but three different road trips. As such, I’m taking plenty of time to prepare for a hopefully Frozen-free drive. (Who am I kidding – our minivan has a DVD player).

I’m busy pinning plenty of ideas on our Pinterest page, and am eager to hear your tips and suggestions for three smooth rides. In the meantime, here’s what I’m buying and making (so far):

The Shrunks Inflatable Toddler Bed – Our oldest loves this travel bed, so we just purchased a second one for our 2-year-old. We plan on practicing with it at home first, and bringing a pack n play just in case. Maybe we should also throw in our princess tent.

Free paper doll printables – If there’s one thing my kids like more than paper dolls, it’s…

Stickers! – I’m planning on buying tons of sticker books for each trip. Who cares if they wind up all over the car and/or my shirt.

I Spy… Bingo – Let’s see if my 3.5 year old can grasp the game.

Lap Trays – I plan on stuffing my kids’ personalized lap trays with crayons, paper, stickers, tape and anything else I find that looks somewhat mess-free.

Snacks! When all else fails, feeding them always works! I’ve come across clever ways to carry the treats from reusing a wipes container to filling a bead organizer to making a munchies necklace.

What are your travel secrets for a stress-free road trip with kids?
