Class Description

Painting in Watercolor

Enrich yourself artistically with a workshop designed to allow you to explore the art of painting in watercolor. This is an affordable and accessible medium that you can participate in with little investment and you don’t need a studio at home to create in watercolors. Through the guidance of Jennie’s individualized approach, students will work on independent projects that are focused on drawing or painting or both, based on each student’s interest. Beginner students will be guided through basic painting and drawing processes that include perception, values, contrast, and paint handling, while more advanced students will develop a direction in their work, honing media and exploring composition and subject matter. Students will be encouraged to work at their own pace.

Jennie Traill Schaeffer is a painter and teaching artist holding a BFA in painting and art education from Syracuse University. Schaeffer has an extensive exhibition history with both traditional and online galleries, and in 2012 earned her first acceptance into a show at the Noyes Museum. Her works have earned her publication by the New York Times, The Village Voice, OurHouse Magazine, NJSavvy Living, Sussex Journal, JerseyArts.com, and a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Scholarship. Schaeffer’s artistic pursuits have resulted in numerous private commissions, public art projects, and helped the revitalization of Newton, NJ, where she ran TraillWorks as a retail studio and art gallery for five years. TraillWorks is now located on the third floor of her West Orange, NJ, home where she is getting back to her art while her two young sons grow.
