Current Openings

Studio Teacher 

Work and Play, a coworking space with an on-site Early Childhood Education program located in South Orange, NJ, is seeking an experienced professional to join our team of educators. This position is to cover a maternity leave which we expect to begin mid-late May and run through end of August. The position could lead to future employment as well. 

Our play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired, multi-age program provides children with an engaging environment that supports their continual growth by being responsive to their interests and developmental levels. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for working with young children, a nurturing demeanor, and a deep commitment to supporting young children and their families. Candidates should enjoy working collaboratively, be comfortable spending time outdoors and adhere to the belief that children are capable learners who deserve to be treated with respect and integrity. They should also be comfortable spending lots of time on the floor and getting messy both indoors and out.

Hours are 8:30-3:30 Monday through Friday. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

– Setting up and guiding warm and exciting “invitations to play” inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy both inside and in the outdoor classroom emphasizing natural materials.

– Providing care such as diapering, feeding, comforting, and supporting children to sleep

– Supervising the classroom and communicate with other teachers and director

– Creating a warm and welcoming environment for children and families, maintaining open communication with parents

– Taking the children outside each day

– Ensuring that the materials, studio, outdoor classrooms, and bathrooms are safe and clean each day

Requirements include:

– Past experience with young children as a teacher, caregiver, babysitter, or parent a must

– Credits or a degree relating to education or child development is preferred

– Strong communication, organization, and time management skills

– Patience, flexibility, and a love for working with young children

– Prior experience with a Reggio-inspired program a plus

– Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and ongoing training

– Candidates with a CPR and First Aid certification preferred (must be willing to obtain certification)

– Must meet all applicable state licensing requirements (regulated by the Department of Children and Families) including a background check and fingerprinting (process begins at the time of interview)

Substitute Teachers

– Collaborate with other teacher to set up and guide warm and exciting “invitations to play” inspired by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy

– Provide basic caregiving such as diapering and assisting during meal and rest times

– Supervise the children at all times

– Support the children’s play, problem solving, and conversation at their level

– Create a warm and welcoming environment for children and families, maintaining open communication with parents

– Ensure that the materials, classrooms, and outdoor space are safe and clean

Requirements include:

– Past experience with young children, such as a teacher, caregiver, babysitter, or parent

– Degree or credits relating to education or child development preferred

– Strong communication, organization, and time management skills

– Patience, flexibility, and a love for working with young children
